Method
Get ready by washing, peeling and cutting the potatoes into thin batons. Slit the green chillies and chop the coriander leaves.
Heat oil in a kadai on medium flame for 1 minute until hot. Add kalonji, asafoetida and green chillies, then fry on low flame for 30 seconds until the seeds crackle.
Add the potatoes, turmeric and salt. Fry on medium flame for 5 minutes without browning, stirring now and then. Add 200 ml water, mix well, cover and cook on medium flame for 10 minutes until the potatoes are almost soft.
Open the lid and mix gently. Cook uncovered on low flame for 5 minutes until the potatoes are fully cooked and the water has dried. Lightly press a few pieces with the ladle so their edges break and coat the rest.
Add coriander leaves and toss on low flame for 1 minute. Switch off when the potatoes are dry and coated with the spices.
Rest the chorchori for 2 minutes before serving with rice and dal.
