Marinate the fish with turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, Kashmiri chili powder, and salt as required. Mix well and set it aside for 15-20 minutes.

Take a tablespoon of tamarind and soak it until it becomes soft. Roast 15-20 shallots until they turn slightly brown. Add 6 to 7 dried red chilies and roast them for 2 minutes on low flame. Grind the roasted shallots and chilies into a fine paste along with the tamarind water.

In a pan, add coconut oil and fry the marinated fish to a golden brown colour on all sides and keep it aside.

In another pan, heat 1 ½ tbsp of coconut oil. Add 5 chopped shallots, ½ tsp of finely chopped garlic, ½ inch of finely chopped ginger, and a sprig of curry leaves. Stir for about a minute. Add the ground paste and mix it over low flame. Add the fried fish to the mixture and mix till it is coated well with the masala. Give it one final toss, garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it hot with rice.
