Method
Measure all the ingredients. Powder the roasted gram in a mixie. Crush the jaggery and keep it ready.
Roast the rice flour in a kadai on low flame for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring often, until it feels light and the raw smell goes. Add the powdered roasted gram, desiccated coconut and cardamom powder. Roast for 2 minutes until the coconut is light golden, then transfer the mixture to a wide bowl.
Heat the jaggery and water in the kadai on medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes until the jaggery melts. Strain it and return the syrup to the kadai. Boil for about 1 to 2 minutes until frothy and slightly thick.
Pour the hot jaggery syrup over the roasted flour mixture. Add the ghee and mix with a spoon for 2 minutes until no dry flour remains. Leave it for 5 minutes until it is warm enough to handle.
Grease a plate and your palms with the remaining ghee. Roll small portions of the warm mixture into firm balls and place them on the plate. Allow about 10 minutes for shaping, then cool for about 25 minutes until firm before serving.
