Wash the chana dal and soak for 1 hour.

Pressure cook the soaked chana dal with ½ tsp of salt, ¼ tsp of turmeric, and 1 cup of water, for 1 whistle

Cook the yam in 1 cup of water, with ¼ tsp of turmeric powder and ½ tsp of salt for 4 minutes, or until it is half done. Add the raw banana and cook for a further 3 minutes, or until both the vegetables are cooked.

Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and when they splutter, add shallots and curry leaves. Saute until the shallots begin to brown.

Add the red chili powder and saute. Add the grated coconut. Saute for 1 minute on medium heat.

Add the cooked chana dal without the excess water. Add the cooked yam and raw banana. Mix well and cook for 1 more minute.
