Method
Get ready by washing and peeling the radish. Cut it into thin half-moon slices. Wash the curry leaves and slit the green chilli. Pat the curry leaves dry so they do not splutter in hot oil.
Heat oil in a kadai on medium flame for 1 minute until hot. Add mustard seeds and cook for 30 seconds until they splutter. Add urad dal, green chilli and curry leaves, then fry for 1 to 2 minutes until the dal turns light golden.
Add the sliced radish and turmeric powder. Stir and fry on medium flame for 2 minutes until the radish looks glossy and begins to soften.
Add water and salt, then mix well. Cover and cook on medium flame for 7 to 8 minutes until the radish is soft but still holds its shape.
Remove the lid and cook on medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes until the extra water dries up. Turn off the flame when the poriyal is dry.
