Wash your toor dal and let it soak in water. While it's soaking, you can get started on slicing the onion and chopping the tomato. Add the dal to a pressure cooker along with the water, the chopped vegetables, slit green chillies and crushed garlic. Turn the flame on. Add the turmeric powder along with the red chilli powder and allow it to come to a boil. Once its boiling, close the lid and allow it to cook for 2 whistles on medium high flame and 2 whistles on a low flame. Once the pressure has released naturally, open the lid and give it a stir

For the tempering, first add crushed garlic to ghee and allow it to become fragrant. Then add the urad dal, and mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds have popped, add the cumin seeds and curry leaves, and turn the flame off to prevent any burning. Add the tempering to the dal and mix to incorporate
