Dry roast the ingredients for the rasam masala powder until aromatic for 5 minutes on medium heat.

Powder in a mixer grinder and set aside.

For the rasam, heat ghee in a pot over medium heat, add the mustard seeds, once they splutter, add the cumin and fenugreek seeds. Fry until aromatic, for 2 mins.

Add the curry leaves, whole red chilli and crushed garlic cloves. Add the roughly chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric and saute for 4 mins, until mushy.

Add the rasam powder and asafoetida mix well for a further 2 mins.

Add the chopped coriander leaves. Pour water and simmer for 10 mins. Serve hot with rice.
