Wash and soak the moong dal in water for 1 hour.

Add the grated carrot to a bowl. Add the soaked moong dal, grated coconut, salt and lemon juice to this.

For the tempering, heat up oil and crackle the mustard seeds. If the dry chillies are large, tear them into smaller pieces and add them. Add chopped green chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves. Add this tempering to the salad and mix well.
