    In a pressure cooker, pour oil and add cinnamon and fennel seeds. Cook on a moderate flame for 30 seconds or until fragrant.

    Add the onion and garlic and cook on a medium-high flame for 2 minutes or until translucent. Add the tomato and cook on a moderate flame for 2-3 minutes or until mushy.

    Add the soaked black channa dal and add the chilli powder and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes on a low flame or until the raw flavour disappears.

    Pour water and pressure cook on a moderate flame for 4 whistles or for 10 minutes

    In a mixer jar add the coconut and gram flour and blend into a fine paste.

    Once the pressure releases, open the lid add the prepared coconut paste and water, cover and boil for 10 minutes or until the oil separates. Serve hot with vada.
