Cookd masalas for moong dal
Method
Rinse the moong dal and masoor dal together until the water runs clear. Soak them in the water for 30 minutes and drain.
Pressure cook the dals with the water for cooking, turmeric powder, ginger and salt on medium heat for 3 whistles, about 12 minutes. Let the pressure drop and mash the dal well.
For the tadka, heat the ghee in a pan on medium heat. Add the cumin and asafoetida, then the garlic and green chilli, and fry for 1 minute. Add the dry red chillies and onion and fry for 4 to 5 minutes until golden. Add the tomato and cook for 3 minutes until soft. Turn off the heat and stir in the red chilli powder and crushed kasuri methi.
Pour the tadka into the dal, add the water for adjusting consistency and simmer for 3 minutes. Add the lemon juice and coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or roti.
