    Soak the tamarind in a cup of hot water.

    Heat a pan, add groundnut oil. Add mustard, cumin, fenugreek, black peppercorns and let it crackle. Add curry leaves, green chillies and let it crackle for few more seconds. Add the garlic cloves and saute for a few seconds. Add the shallots and saute till it turns translucent.

    Add the masala powders and mix for a minute. Add the tomatoes and saute for 2 minutes. Cook the tomatoes till the tomatoes turn mashy. Add water and bring it to a boil. Dissolve the tamarind and add the water to the mixture and mix gently.

    Add the fish. Add salt, mix well. Cover and cook the mixture for 5 minutes. Bring the mixture to a boil, add coriander leaves and take it off the flame. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot with rice.
