Soak the mochai overnight (around 8 - 10 hours) Pressure cook the mochai in 1 Cup water, for 5 whistles, on a medium heat.

Add water to the karuvaadu and soak for 15 minutes. Soak the tamarind for 15 minutes by adding ½ cup of water. Once soaked, squeeze the pulp out and strain

In a kadai add coconut oil and groundnut oil Once hot, add channa dal, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and urad dal. After popping, add the shallots. Saute for 2 minutes. Add the tomato and mix well.

Add the raw banana, chilli and brinjal. Saute for 5 minutes. Add turmeric powder, salt, red chilli powder, along with some water. Bring it to a boil and then simmer covered for 6 - 7 minutes.

Now add the pressure cooked mochai and the soaked karuvaadu (dry fish) cover and cook it for 5 minutes on a medium flame.

Add the coconut to a blender with some water and make a paste. Add the paste to the pan and mix to combine well. Add the tamarind water and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes before turning off the heat.
