Method

  1. 1

Get ready by rinsing the banana stem and curry leaves, slitting the green chillies and grating the coconut. Remove the outer layers from the banana stem. Slice it into thin rounds, pull out the long fibres as you cut, and chop the slices finely. Mix the lemon juice with the water and keep the chopped stem in it until needed so it does not darken. Rinse the moong dal.

Heat oil in a kadai on medium flame for 1 minute until hot. Add mustard seeds and fry for 30 seconds until they splutter. Add urad dal, chana dal, green chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida. Fry for 2 minutes until the dals turn light golden. Add the moong dal and fry for 1 minute.
