Method

Combine the salt, oil and flour in a bowl. Add the water and wet the flour using your finger tips. Use some extra water if there are any leftover dry flour bits. Clump together a rough dough. Cover and rest for 10 mins.

Once rested, knead the dough for 1-2 mins until it is non-sticky and smooth. Cover and rest again for 10 mins. Roll out the dough into a log and cut into even sized pieces. Roll each piece into roundels. Using some flour to dust, roll them into thin and large discs.

For chapati: cook on a preheated tava, until small bubbles appear on both sides. Use the spatula then to apply some pressure even on the roti until it cooks and puffs up on both sides.

For phulka: cook on a preheated tava, until small bubbles appear on both sides. Then use tongs and place the phulka on an open high flame, it will puff up. Flip it after a few seconds and take it off the flame. Apply ghee/ butter and serve hot.

Yes it worked well. I added extra water by mistake but then got it equalised with an ample amount of flour and oil. A small suggestion to provide a little more clarity on mixing water step. And again Kudos to Cookd team.

The water was a bit extra. The dough was sticky even after leaving it alone for quite some time. Had to add more flour to bring it to the right consistency.
