Wash and soak the dal for 30 mins. Add into a pressure cooker with salt, turmeric powder and water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.

Knead a stiff dough with atta, besan and the spices. Roll out into thin sheets and cut into large diamond shapes/ strips.

In a pot, heat ghee and splutter the mustard seeds. Add the cumin seeds, garlic, curry leaves and slit green chillies, asafoetida. Mix it well. Add chilli and turmeric powder and mix it well.

Add the cooked dal and adjust the consistency with water, if needed. Add salt and mix it well.

Add the tamarind and jaggery. Mix it well. Add water, mix it well and bring the mixture to a boil.

Add the dough triangles and simmer for 10 mins until cooked.
