In a pan, add oil, dry red chilli and saute until it becomes slightly black. In a mixer jar, add the roasted dry red chilli, rock salt, tamarind and blend it into a fine paste.

In a pan, add gingelly oil, mustard seeds, urad dal and fry until it pops. Now add the shallots and saute for 2 minutes. Now add the red chilli paste and let it cook for 5 minutes.
