Method

    Heat oil in a kadai, Add mustard, urad dal, dry red chilli, curry leaves and let it crackle.

    Add the onions and saute till it turns translucent. Add a pinch of asafoetida, mix it well. Cook the onions till they start to turn light brown.

    Add ginger garlic paste, mix it for a few seconds.

    Add the red chilli powder and turmeric powder, mix it for about a minute.

    Add water, salt and sugar. Mix it well. Cover and cook it till all the water is absorbed.
