    Wash and soak the raw rice for at least 3 hours. You can also soak it overnight.

    Adding ½ cup of the soaking water and ½ tsp of salt, grind the rice into a coarse paste. Make sure the paste is not too fine, the texture should be coarse.

    In a pan, heat up coconut oil and add the mustard seeds. When it starts to splutter, add the split urad dal and chana dal. When the color of the dals starts to change, add the curry leaves and dry red chilies. Add the grated coconut and saute.

    Add the coarse rice paste and cook on medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture has thickened into a dough consistency. Turn off the heat.

    When the mixture has cooled down enough to be able to handle, but still warm, roll the dough into 2-inch sized balls. If it is sticky, use some oil to grease your hands.

    Set up a steamer and arrange the rolled-out pieces on the steamer tray. Steam for 10 minutes. Serve warm with chutney.
