    Soak tamarind in 2 tbsp of water and extract thick tamarind juice

    Add 1 cup of water to a pressure cooker, add the chopped yam, chopped spinach, ¼ tsp of turmeric and 2 tsp of salt. Pressure cook this for 7 whistles.

    Once the pressure settles, mash the spinach and yam.

    In another pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil. Add the tempering ingredients - chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilli and roast the spices.

    Add the mashed spinach and yam mixture to the pan and cook for 2 minutes.

    Add the tamarind juice and jaggery.

    Add red chilli powder and continue cooking this for 3 mins and remove from the heat. Serve hot with rice and ghee.
