Cookd masalas for beans

Method

  1. 1

Get ready by rinsing the French beans, green chilli and curry leaves. Trim both ends of the beans and chop them into small pieces. Break the dry red chilli, slit the green chilli and grate the coconut. Pat the curry leaves dry so they do not splutter in hot oil.

  2. 2

Heat oil in a kadai on medium flame for 1 minute until hot. Add mustard seeds and fry for 1 minute until they splutter. Add urad dal, dry red chilli, curry leaves and green chilli, then fry for 1 to 2 minutes until the dal turns light golden.

  3. 3

Add the chopped French beans, turmeric powder and salt. Mix and fry for 2 minutes until the beans are coated with the tempering. Add water, cover and cook on low flame for 8 to 10 minutes until the beans are tender but still hold their shape.

Turn off the flame and serve warm with rice and sambar. The beans should be cooked through without becoming mushy.
