Cookd masalas for toor dal

Method

    Dry roast all the ingredients under Bisi Bele Bath masala until aromatic and grind it into a powder using a mixer grinder.

    Soak tamarind in warm water and extract tamarind juice.

    Cook the washed Toor Dal and Rice in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles with 6 cups of water.

    In a Kadai, heat 2 tsp of oil, add the shallots and saute until they are translucent. Add the chopped vegetables to the same Kadai and stir fry for 2 minutes.

    Add 1 Cup of Water and cook the vegetables for 7 mins.

    Add tamarind juice to the cooked vegetables and continue to cook for another 2 mins. Add turmeric powder, salt and 4 tbsp of prepared bisi bele bath masala, jaggery. Mix well and remove from heat.

    In another pan, add 3 tbsp of ghee and add the tempering ingredients. Roast until the cashews are golden brown.

    Mash the dal and Rice mixture and add the cooked vegetable mixture. Cook for 5 mins till the water is absorbed and Bisebelabath reaches the desired consistency.

    Add the tempering to the cooked bisi bele bath and mix well. Serve the Bisebelabath hot with Potato Chips or Vadagam.
