    Wash and soak the dal for 3 hours.

    Grind to a fine thick batter with ginger, coriander leaves, and green chilies adding water a little at a time, about 100 ml.

    Transfer to a bowl and add the onions.

    Add oil and splutter the mustard seeds, add the urad dal, curry leaves, asafoetida, green chilies, and ginger and saute for 2 minutes. Add the onions and cook until translucent.

    Add the rava, salt and water. Cook until it leaves the sides of the pan. About 5-7 minutes. Finish with a tsp of ghee.

    To make the pesarattu, heat a skillet over medium flame, spread the pesarattu batter thin like a dosa, allow it to cook on both sides.

    Spread the upma and allow it to cook for 3 minutes or until brown and crispy. Fold in half and serve.
