Cookd masalas for masoor dal

Method

    Wash the Masoor dal and the Moong dal twice. Soak them for at least 20 minutes. You can also soak them overnight.

    In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, salt, turmeric powder and water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on a high flame. Let the pressure release naturally.

    For the tadka, heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and dry Kashmiri red chillies. When the cumin starts to crackle, add the chopped ginger, garlic, onion and tomatoes. Cook them until the onions are translucent.

    Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and Kasuri methi. Saute and cook for 1 minute.

    Remove half the tadka into a bowl. This is for the tadka, that is to be added at the end.

    Add the cooked dal to the pan. Mix well with the tadka. Allow the dal to simmer for 5 minutes.

    Add the chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice, mix and take off the stove.

    Re-heat the reserved Tadka with the ghee, and pour it on top of the dal. Serve warm!
