Cookd masalas for rice
Method
In a bowl, add the dal and rice, take out 1 tbsp of moong dal and set aside. Wash the dals and rice until the water runs completely clear. Add the dried red chilli and let it soak for 1 hour. Strain the dal into a mixer jar. Blend into a coarse, very thick batter, add it to a mixing bowl and set aside.
In a pan, pour groundnut oil, add the urad dal, curry leaves and saute until golden brown. Add the grated coconut, asafoetida and saute on a medium flame for 1 minute, making sure the coconut doesn’t change colour and add it to the prepared dal. Add salt and the moong dal and mix thoroughly.
Shape into vadais and deep fry on a medium flame for 4-5 minutes on a low medium flame. Serve hot.
